Frequently asked questions
01
What is a reusable ID?
A reusable ID is a private-sector digital identity created through an identity-proofing process and designed to be used again with the holder's consent. The user verifies once with the provider, then can reuse the resulting account or credential with other participating businesses.
02
Does a reusable ID eliminate document and selfie verification?
For a returning user, it can avoid repeating the full document-and-selfie flow. A first-time user may still need to capture a document, complete liveness, and wait for verification before the identity becomes reusable. Higher-risk transactions may also require a fresh or step-up check.
03
Is every reusable ID a portable or decentralized credential?
No. The reusable object may be a signed credential, a verified provider account, or a server-side assertion released after authentication and consent. Some providers use open wallet standards; others use proprietary login, SDK, or hosted verification flows.
04
Does a reusable ID keep the same assurance forever?
No. Assurance depends on the original proofing, account recovery, device changes, revocation, data freshness, and any later refresh or step-up verification. A relying party should know whether the result reflects an old proofing event, a recently refreshed source, or a new transaction-specific check.
05
What should a business evaluate before accepting reusable IDs?
Evaluate provider adoption, the acceptance network, first-time versus returning-user conversion, available attributes, proofing strength, data freshness, recovery controls, and fallback coverage. Private issuance does not imply weak assurance, but reuse within one closed network is not the same as broad portability.
